Orthodox Detroit Outreach encourages participation and input by all
Detroit-area Orthodox Christians. There are several ways to get
First Saturday Sack Lunch Sessions
On the first Saturday of every month* we gather at a local parish to
make sack lunches for distribution to the hungry. Come join us for
fellowship and fun as we give our time for the sake fo the needy. Check
our calendar for locations. *We will gather on the 2nd Saturday when the 1st Saturday falls on a feast day.
Breakfast at the NSO
On the Tuesday morning following our Saturday sack lunch session, we
meet at the Neighborhood Service Organization in the Cass Corridor to
serve breakfast to our brothers and sisters in need. Volunteers are
asked to arrive no later than 8am at 3430 3rd St, Detroit.
Sunday Afternoon Luncheon
Beginning Sunday November 17,
we will begin serving weekly meals at Ss Peter and Paul Cathedral in
Southwest Detroit, and we will need volunteers to bring and serve food
EVERY WEEK! If you and your parish or other group would like to sign up
to provide volunteers please contact Janet at 313.706.0666 or send an
email to email@example.com.
These meals will begin at 2pm, (but volunteers are asked to show up no
later than 1:30) and will wrap up around 3:30. The church hall is
located at 3710 Gilbert St, Detroit, MI 48210.
On Saturday November 23, ODO
will be teaming up with Ss Peter and Paul Cathedral in Southwest Detroit to host
our third annual Thanksgiving feast for the community. Your help in
providing another successful Thanksgiving feast will be very much
appreciated. Please click here to sign up!
Food and Clothing Collection
Volunteers are encouraged to collect non-perishable food and new or
slightly used clothing. We will distribute all food and clothing
donated directly to the needy or to ministries that support the needy.
ODO assists with or sponsors two community gardens in Detroit. One is at St Raphael of Brooklyn Orthodox Church in the Castle Rouge neighborhood. The other is called Jardín de los Santos
and is located at Livernois and Clayton in Southwest Detroit.
Volunteers who think they have a green thumb--or think they don't--are
encouraged to come lend a hand sometime to help with planting,
cultivating, weeding, harvesting, trimming, watering, pruning, or any
of the many tasks that a garden requires. Occasionally we will host
neighborhood events at these gardens. Look for announcements on our Facebook page, our Twitter feed, or sign up for our e-newsletter for more information.
In addition to your time and prayers, please consider supporting our ministry with a donation. Our work can only continue through the generosity of our donors, and your generosity is most appreciated.
We are always eager to hear from our friends who know of upcoming
events in which we can get involved. Do you know of a family member or
fellow parishioner who is engaged in an outreach effort and could use
some help? Let us know and we can help gather support. Or, perhaps you
would like to set up an event yourself? Maybe you would like to gather
a group to deliver meals to shut-ins, or pick up litter along a stretch
of road, or shovel snow for people who can’t do it themselves. Contact
us at firstname.lastname@example.org
and we can help you set up
that event and spread the word.
